Isaiah Stewart II (born May 22, 2001), nicknamed “Beef Stew,” is an American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Standing 6 feet 8 inches (2.03 m) and weighing 250 pounds (113 kg), Stewart is widely regarded as one of the league’s premier defensive enforcers and interior anchors.
Stewart was born in Rochester, New York, to Dela Stewart and Shameka Holloway. His father, a Jamaican immigrant, instilled a relentless work ethic that defines Stewart’s physical style of play. He attended La Lumiere School in Indiana, where he was named the 2019 Naismith High School Player of the Year. At the University of Washington (2019–20), he averaged 17.0 points and 8.8 rebounds, earning First-team All-Pac-12 honors.
The 16th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Stewart has spent his entire career with the Pistons. After earning NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors in 2021, he signed a four-year, $64 million extension in 2023. By the 2024–25 season, he became the backbone of Detroit’s defense, helping lead the team to a surprising resurgence.
As of February 20, 2026, Stewart is currently serving a seven-game suspension following a multi-player brawl during a February 9 game against the Charlotte Hornets. The NBA cited his history of “unsportsmanlike acts” for the length of the ban.
Before the suspension, Stewart was enjoying a historic defensive campaign. In January 2026, he became the first player in Pistons history to be named the Eastern Conference Defensive Player of the Month (for December 2025).
Known for his intense “enforcer” persona, Stewart is also a dedicated philanthropist. He frequently hosts youth basketball camps in Rochester and Detroit and has funded several educational initiatives through his “Beef Stew Foundation.”
